Thanks to everyone who came out to Spandex City for Free Comic Book Day! Even though it was hot outside, and there were long lines, we hope you all had a good time with the Imperial Stormtroopers and are enjoying your free books! We're already working on cutting down wait times for next year's event (Saturday, May 4, 2013). We will have special store hours on Tuesday, April 3 for the launch of "Avengers vs. X-Men #1" We will be open from 3:00 pm - 7:00 pm, and then re-open from 8:00 - 9:00 pm for the "Avengers vs. X-Men" Launch Party!
The first 25 customers at the Launch Party (yes, we suggest you arrive before 8:00 to line up) will receive the #1 issue for FREE, courtesy of our friends at the Sci-Fi Stack Exchange! If you ever need a definitive answer (or you are the one with all the answers) about a sci-fi storyline or character, the Sci-Fi Stack Exchange is the only place to go!

There is still plenty of time to enter the "Science & Superheroes" contest to win 4 VIP passes to the Charlotte advance screening of "The Avengers" movie! The contest is brought to you by Spandex City and Discovery Place and is open to kids grades K-8. The official rules and entry form can be found on our Science & Superheroes web page. The new deadline is Tuesday, April 10, 2012.
On Sunday, March 18th, we will have a special "Girls Got Game!" event, also from 2-4 pm. Ladies (and girls), come on over and play a variety of strategy board games (and card games, such as Magic). "No boys allowed!"

On Sunday, November 13th, join us from 1:00 - 4:00 pm for our "Strategy Street Re-launch Event" at Spandex City. We will have fun and free demonstrations available for game players of all ages. We are focusing strongly around games that are easy to learn and quick to play at this event. You can play a game or two from start to finish, or you can "speed date" around the various demo stations to sample as many games as possible. (Also, we'll have the Panthers game on the big screen for multi-taskers!)
We'll also be launching "Play It Forward", an innovative money-saving game trade-in program. With "Play It Forward", you have convenient way to try out new board games and refresh your personal game collection at a minimal cost. Get more details here.
Spandex City and the Charlotte Geeks are proud to sponsor the 2011 Geek Gala, a charity benefit for Youth Homes, on Saturday 10/29. We'll have a family-oriented Pre-Gala at the store from 4 pm to 6 pm, followed by a "PG-13" event at the Charlotte Executive Park Marriott from 7 pm to midnight. Full details on both events are forthcoming, but you can expect the following at the Pre-Gala:
- FREE comic books for kids (while supplies last)
- Kids' costume contest
- Kids' trivia contest
- Door prizes
- Hints for the Geek Gala Trivia Quiz
- Donations for Youth Homes
The evening event will include more fun events, such as:
- Caricature sketches

Come on out to Spandex City from 7 - 10 pm on Saturday, September 10th! We're hosting a FREE Magic event, where you can have a great time and learn a fun game. Everyone gets at least one pack of Magic cards for FREE, and you can win up to 3 additional packs! All you need to do is make sure you have a Hero Bucks membership (also FREE at the store).

The All-New DC Universe is almost here! We'll have a special MIDNIGHT release of "Flashpoint #5" and :Justice League #1" at Spandex City Comics.
Doors will open at 11:30 pm on Tuesday, August 30th, and will stay open until 12:30 am on Wednesday, August 31st. We'll eat cake, watch classic cartoons, and have a super ONE-HOUR sale on all kinds of DC products (comics, graphic novels, action figures, and more). There will even be a very cool door prize!

Just in case you hadn't noticed, the DC Universe is undergoing a complete overhaul, courtesy of the Reverse Flash! When Flashpoint comes to its conclusion after issue #5, DC Comics will be launching 52 new #1 issues. Some familiar titles (such as 'Action Comics' and 'Batman') will re-start at issue #1. Other titles (such as 'Batwing' and 'Savage Hawkman') will make their debut.
It all starts with 'Justice League #1' (on sale 8/31) written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Jim Lee!

Toys from Japan are amongst the hottest items in the collectibles market. Their ability to rise in value has been proven time and time again! We have recently gotten hold of a virtual treasure trove of Japanese import toys, and we're selling them to help raise money for the earthquake and tsunami victims in Japan.
33% of all the sales of these special items will be donated to Tzu Chi (http://tw.tzuchi.org/en/), a global humanitarian relief organization that is actively working in Japan to help distribute food and other relief goods.
