Magic: The Gathering Standard Tournament (Charlotte, NC), 7:00 pm
Friday Night Magic (FNM) is the perfect venue for low-pressure Magic players! Don't fixate on your rating, and leave your "net decks" at home. Just have fun, make friends, try out new decks, and play Magic! Everyone who wins the FIRST ROUND will get a FREE promo foil or full-art card (randomly chosen)! Also, everyone is guaranteed to win at least one booster pack as a prize (see below)!
We also randomly give away a door prize at each tournament. It might be a premium foil card, playmat, a metal life/poison counter, a duel deck, or a special surprise!
At Spandex City, ALL players will receive booster packs as prizes, based on the number of match points earned. The tournament will consist of 3 rounds of Swiss draw play. Each round will be "best 2 out of 3", with a 45-minute time limit for each round.
You get 3 points for winning a match, and 1 point for a draw. All prizes will be from currently standard packs. Here is how we will award prizes after 3 rounds of play:
-
9 points - 5 booster packs (or FREE entry into a future booster draft), plus the exclusive FNM foil card ("Glistener Elf" for January)
-
7 points - 3 booster packs (or FREE entry into a future FNM)
-
5-6 points - 2 booster packs
-
4 or fewer points - 1 booster pack
Any leftover FNM foil cards will be randomly awarded to players who did not already receive one.
Sideboard policy: At Spandex City, we make every effort to ensure fair play. If you have a sideboard, you must keep it on the table with you from the start of the match. You must reset your deck to its original configuration at the end of each match.
Trading policy: If you wish to trade cards between rounds, please check in your deck and sideboard at the counter prior to bringing out your trading cards.
This is a Standard (i.e. Type 2) tournament. Your deck must consist of cards from the following sets only: Scars of Mirrodin, Mirrodin Besieged, New Phyrexia, Magic 2012, and Innistrad.
Don't worry if you don't have a deck! Ready-to-play decks are available for sale at the store.
REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 20 PLAYERS PER TOURNAMENT! We often fill up, so please arrive early or pre-register (online or over the phone).
